Porsche Wireless Charging Debuts with Cayenne Electric in 2025

Can electric cars be charged without a plug? Porsche makes it possible. Porsche Wireless Charging is a combination of comfort and advanced technology: a new way to transfer energy and bring it to the next generation of mobility.

Porsche is also proposing inductive charging of its electric cars based on the simplicity of charging a smartphone. The system, which was designed to sell preparedness, provides as much as 11 kW of charging power on a small base plate the size of one box. There is no wallbox or control unit required, like in a conventional installation, but only a smooth floor plate, which allows contactless charging.

The all-electric Cayenne, which will be introduced at the end of 2025, will be the first Porsche to provide such an innovative option. The floor plate can be installed by customers on a garage floor or carport floor, or in outside parking lots, and Porsche will offer professional installation. In 2026, the system will start being sold at Porsche Centres and in the Porsche Shop.

Accessibility and functionality are critical to greater adoption of electric mobility, explained Dr. Michael Steiner, Deputy Chairman and Member of the Executive Board in Research and Development. Porsche Wireless Charging would make charging an electric car in the house much easier than ever before.

The technology is built to be safe and efficient, with up to 90% energy transfer rates and smart capabilities via the My Porsche app. The car is automatically lowered to fit into the floor plate, and built-in sensors track the movement of other foreign objects to maintain safe use.

As the vast majority of Porsche EV owners will charge at home, inductive charging will be a significant step toward making everyday electric driving both easier and more approachable. Porsche Wireless Charging will be introduced in Europe in 2026, with other markets coming thereafter.
