No matter how safe of a driver a person may feel that he or she is, it’s impossible to know how other drivers will react behind the wheel. We can’t prevent others from making mistakes or acting carelessly and causing accidents. We can, however, take all necessary precautions in order to steer clear of potential accidents. To stay as safe as possible on the road, it’s important to know how commonly seen accidents can occur in order to know how to avoid them.

What are the most common types of car accidents that occur? St. Louis auto accident attorney Benjamin Sansone lists these scenarios as follows:

1. Speeding

Many drivers don’t understand the impact that their speeding can have on the rest of the road. Drivers who may be running late and rushing aren’t considering how their impatience can negatively affect others. The best thing a person can do to avoid an accident caused by speeding is to remain completely alert and keep a good amount of distance between themselves and the car in front of them.

2. Failure to yield

Accidents that occur from a failure to yield can often occur at intersections. Many times, speeding is a factor in these accidents as well. When traveling through intersections, take your time. Stay aware of your surroundings. If you’re driving through a 4-way stop, come to a complete stop and take time to look in every direction more than once. It’s not uncommon to see someone speed through these intersections and neglect to stop.

3. T-boned at an intersection

When drivers run red lights, other cars run the risk of being t-boned at the intersection. This type of sideways impact can often lead to head or neck injuries for the driver who was hit. Often times, drivers will accelerate after the light turns yellow to attempt to make it through. However, this can mean they’re stuck running a red light and will hit anyone in their path. When you’re waiting at a red light and the light turns green, give it a moment before you start accelerating to ensure no one else is speeding through.

4. Rear-ended by another car

When vehicles are rear-ended, it is presumed to be the fault of the driver in the back unless the first driver stopped abruptly without signaling. Keep your eyes on the road and remain alert at all times. Always leave plenty of space between you and the car in front of you. If the person behind you does run into you, you should at least have enough space in front of you to avoid hitting the car ahead.

A Final Note

Georgia truck accident attorneys the Spiva firm explain that truck accidents are often more complicated, as they’re completely dependent on the individual situation. What type of cargo is on the truck? What company does the driver work for, and if he or she an independent contractor? Because certain factors can make the legal situation much more complicated, it’s important to seek legal council to receive the help and compensation you deserve.
According to Virginia Beach car accident lawyers, you should be compensated for more than just property damage. Also consider hospital bills, lost wages and pain and suffering.

The best way to help prevent an accident is to stay alert while driving, but also be prepared to take action if something does happen on the road.
